A craftsman is only as good as the tools they work with. You won’t see a reputable tradesman 👩🏼🔧 using sub-standard tools 🔨 and, even though your tools will be different, you strive to use the best, too.
Finding the right tools for your trade (also known as software and apps!) can be overwhelming and it will take some trial and error.
You have to start somewhere, though, so stop procrastinating and take the plunge 🏊🏼♀️. If something doesn’t work out, that’s OK, just move on as quickly as you can. Ultimately you must like working with the damn thing.
After a few solid months of working with my chosen apps, I came to find that a few just weren’t working for me. I went online and started researching some new ones.
So here are the 3 apps that are currently making my day just that little bit easier. I hope they help you too.
1. Toggl – toggl.com
Toggl is the second time ⏱ recording software I have used since starting my business. I started using it a few months ago and I haven’t looked back to MyHours since. MyHours was just too clunky and jittery in the user experience and, truly, I believe it wasted more of my time than it tracked!
Toggl is simple to use and the software, both mobile 📱 and desktop 💻, is fast and responsive. It syncs almost instantly and gives you a great home screen summary which allows to you choose from recent time entries to duplicate. This is awesome if you are switching between projects regularly.
2. ClickUp – clickup.com
Choosing a task/project management software is probably one of the most discussed topics I see online. It’s a very personal choice and, depending on the service you’re offering your clients, can affect their experience of working with you, too.
I am very much a tick off the list ✔ kind of gal. I don’t do boards and moving things around. I just want a list that gets ticked and cleared.
I have only recently switched over to ClickUp after using Asana since the beginning. I had some major issues with Asana after a recent update and, after receiving no response from their support team, I threw my hands up in the air and went hunting.
ClickUp is definitely a tick-off kind of app but does also give those more into the ‘visual’, boards to work with instead. I have not sampled this in any way, I can’t do boards!
From what I have experienced so far, it’s exactly what I was looking for but.
NB: 23/11/19 - I have also experienced Clickups support team overnight and am super excited to tell you that I had a response to my support query within 24 hours and advising me that, they knew about the issues, were working on them and would contact me again when the solution was scheduled for upload. That's what I call service.
3. Zapier – Zapier.com
How do you even explain Zapier? It’s an automation system that allows you to create links between different apps, saving you time.
EG. When I create a new contact in Gmail, Zapier will automatically create a customer ID in my accounting app.
That is a really simple example but it gives you a basic idea of what the app can do for you.
I have been told, once you get really into Zapier, it can do some absolutely amazing things and it can save you so much time by automating a lot of the behind the scenes processes in your business. I am definitely looking forward to using this more, moving forward, and would love to hear from those of you with some really awesome Zaps in place.
What apps are making your day easier right now? How did you find them? Come on, share, I’m always looking for new things to give a go!
