So, what does a Lifestyle Manager do on a day to day basis?
It’s a question I’ve been asked many times and, honestly, the answer is so simple it’s frustrating!
A Lifestyle Manager does exactly what it says on the box. Whatever you need assistance with to manage your preferred lifestyle.
I know what you’re thinking: What a cop-out, right? But it’s true. It’s such a broad description. Everyone’s life is different, everyone’s wants and needs are different and everyone’s ideal (goal) life is different. The service is personalised to your needs.
To give you even more of an idea on what a Lifestyle Manager does, it might help if I give you a list of just some of the things I’ve been asked to do over the last year.
Book travel I’ve worked from the ground up on this request. Starting in the research phase and working right through to assisting with the booking through a reputable Travel Agent, arranging insurances and ensuring all documentation and itineraries are correct.
Make restaurant reservations Want to take your loved one out for a special meal? Don’t have time to negotiate the restaurant’s website or phone system? No problems, you tell me, and I’ll get it done.
Event planning (anniversaries, birthdays) Do you have an event to plan and don’t even know where to start? I can assist in the basics of venue research right through to flowers, cakes, decorations, catering and staff.
Meal planning This is something relatively new but one I love to do. I’ve been doing my own meal plans for years to assist in budget control. I can build you a meal plan from my personal stock of recipes, providing recipe cards and shopping lists (or see below). I can work from your own personal recipes or tastes and create a weekly meal plan for you and the family.
Online shopping This could be as simple as your grocery shopping. Give me your list and I’ll get it done and either arranged for pick-up or delivered to your door. I can also go right through to personal shopping. My most recent, and probably my most favourite task was helping a client order socks! Yes, small things amuse me!
Gift research, ordering and delivery arranging Want to order flowers for that special someone? Need to send out some corporate gifts? I can research great ideas for you and then order and arrange delivery.
Appointment scheduling Whether it’s personal appointments for facials and massages or medical appointments, I can help you by booking online or over the phone at a time that works with your schedule.
Trade quotes for renovations Need to get that new kitchen renovation underway? Just can’t handle the stress of finding and researching reputable tradesmen? Leave it to me. I’ll arrange multiple quotes and designs for you to look over in your own time.
I think you’re starting to get the idea, right? I can carry out the tasks that you do on a daily, or weekly, basis. The tasks that you probably hate doing and the tasks that take up some of your hard-earned time off.
So, now you know the sorts of things a Lifestyle Manager can do, I can hear you asking, “Lizzi, but why do I need a Lifestyle Manager?”
A lot of people think that hiring a Lifestyle Manager is a luxury that only the rich 💸 and famous 📷 can afford. But in my mind, that’s just not the case. It’s like hiring a cleaner 🧹 for your home, or a website designer for your business. You’re hiring someone to do the tasks that you either don’t want to do or you can’t do yourself.
"According to a 2010 report by Oxford Brookes University the most popular use for Lifestyle Managers (AKA Personal Concierge) was sourcing and booking restaurants (46%) followed closely by personal travel bookings (36%)."
Why should you have to spend your time doing things you hate? Or learning how to do new things that you won’t have to do that often? You have lists of tasks to get done but there are some you’re just not prepared to do 🙅🏼♀️. You only have so many hours in the day and, let’s be honest, you’d rather spend them doing something else!
A Lifestyle Manager will take the time-consuming tasks from you, saving you time and freeing you up to do the things you love.
You work hard. You’re creating a certain lifestyle for yourself and your family, and that’s OK. Seriously, don’t be ashamed of what you want to achieve. But, because of all the other ‘chores’ you have to do after work, you’re not actually living in the life that you’re trying to create.
It’s a vicious circle. You work all day to build that lifestyle, you get home, looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine 🍷 on your nice, new sofa but you spend half the night doing your meal planning and online shopping.
Am I starting to make sense? Whilst Lifestyle Manager services (better known as, Personal Concierge) started out as a service for the rich, famous, affluent, it’s now a service highly sought after for busy professionals and successful entrepreneurs.
